I have been following Lindybeige for quite a while. He mostly talks about historical military stuff that has no practical value, but is interesting. He posted the following video recently that really touches on modern soldiers lives. It is a perspective that I have never heard before. It's worth a watch.
There are of factors that go into PTSD I am sure, but being trained to do something instinctively that probably will significantly disturb you surely plays some part. It saves a lot of soldiers lives I am sure. The story of Black Hawk Down would have been a lot worse without the training. However, it does call into question the ethics of this kind of training without similarly equipping soldiers to deal with the emotional repercussions.
I don't know what all to think about it without learning more, but it is a topic that begs further discussion.
